A Special Event 1x1 callsign is a temporary amateur radio call sign issued for a limited time to commemorate a specific event — anniversaries, conventions, historic dates, or public outreach activities. Unlike a standard amateur license call sign, a 1x1 callsign uses a single-letter prefix and single-letter suffix (for example, "W1A"), making it easy for operators to recognize and work during the event.

These call signs are coordinated by volunteer 1x1 callsign coordinators rather than assigned directly through the standard FCC vanity call sign process. A licensed control operator applies to a coordinator, who reserves an available 1x1 combination for the requested dates. The call sign is typically only valid for the duration of the event, after which it returns to the available pool.
